What can I expect from mentors?

What you can expect from a mentorship depends on the mentor and is described on their profile, usually in their program card.

That said, there are some things you should expect from any mentor on MentorCruise.

What you can expect from any mentor

  • Availability for questions, advice, and guidance within their stated response times.
  • Support in working toward your personal or professional goals.
  • Flexibility when goals change or new challenges come up.
  • Actionable coaching, such as help with interviews, CV reviews, and career decisions.
  • A stable point of contact you can rely on throughout your journey.

What many mentors also offer (as shown on their profile)

  • 1-on-1 video call sessions
  • Reviews of your work with concrete feedback
  • Custom exercises, challenges, or to-dos
  • Faster reply times (often within 24 hours)

What you should not expect from mentors

  • In-depth implementation work such as writing large amounts of code, building features, or spending hours debugging. Mentors are guides, not freelancers, and usually charge far below their normal consulting rates.
  • A fixed or pre-built curriculum. Mentorship is personalized and focused on your needs, not lectures or generic courses. Mentors may point you to relevant resources instead.
  • 24/7 availability. Mentors have their own jobs and commitments and may occasionally be slower to respond.
  • Instant replies. Mentorships are designed to be long-term relationships (most last more than 30 days). If a mentor takes a few hours to reply, that is normal. If you ever feel neglected, you should reach out and clarify expectations.
