I'm seeing a lot of failed payments in my Stripe, what's happening?

From time to time, mentors that use Stripe Connect as their payout method will experience an influx of failed, canceled or incomplete charges. This looks worrying at first glance, but there's no need for panic.

In many cases, these are not real “failed” payments.

Why Stripe shows these payments

With Stripe, a payment (or payment intent) can be created as soon as someone reaches the checkout step. At that stage it is typically incomplete.

If the customer does not finish entering payment details, the payment stays incomplete and may later be marked as canceled or appear as a failed/abandoned attempt in Stripe.

Why you see a lot of them

A large share of traffic to MentorCruise session booking pages includes:

  • People who open the checkout but do not complete it (window shopping, comparison shopping)
  • Bots, crawlers, and automated scanners that visit pages but never pay

These visits can trigger Stripe to create payment attempts that never complete.

What this means

In most cases:

  • The customer was never charged
  • Nothing “failed” in the payment system
  • The checkout was simply abandoned or automated traffic hit the page
