How can I respond to inquiries?

Inquiries are designed to give mentees an opportunity to ask questions before booking your services. As soon as a mentee sends their first message to you, an inquiry is created. As a mentor, you play a crucial role in guiding the mentee through this conversation.

Choose who you engage with

  • The first message in an inquiry is considered a “message request”. The mentee will only be able to continue the conversation with you after you reply to that first message.
  • You can close the inquiry at any time during the conversation - this allows you to leave an optional last message for the mentee before clearing the inquiry from your inbox.

Guide the mentee down the right path

  • If the mentee is looking for long-term mentorship, and you believe you’ve gathered enough information about their background and goals, you might want to fast-track the inquiry. This converts the inquiry into an approved application, and the mentee can start the mentorship right away.
  • If the mentee is looking for long-term mentorship, and you prefer to gather their information in a more streamlined way, encourage them to apply to you formally.
  • If the mentee has a short-term goal that’s more suitable for one-off sessions, encourage them to book one with you!

Turning inquiries on/off

You can toggle  Inquiries on and off under Management > Change profile > Discoverability.

Q: If I close an inquiry, does it affect my profile negatively?
A: Nope! 

Q: Does MentorCruise track my performance based on how fast I respond to inquiries?
A: Yes. Similar to applications, we only track your first response to an inquiry (be it reply, close, or fast-track).

Q: I remember talking with a mentee in an inquiry, but the conversation disappeared from my inbox. Where did it go?
A: 
Chances are the same mentee has also sent you an application. In this case, the inquiry will be automatically closed, while the messages from that inquiry will be carried over to the application, so you can pick up where you’ve left off.

Q: I’m curious to see what inquiries look like for the mentee - what actions can they take on their end?
