Using the "welcome message" field

The welcome message gives your mentees a soft landing and some starting points when they first start their trial with you. It can be set up in your plan settings, at Settings > Plans.

It's designed to give your mentees some starting points in the few hours between starting their trial, and you being able to come online. We recommend setting up a welcome message.

How to use placeholders in the welcome message

You can use ${MENTEE_NAME} as a placeholder in your welcome messages, which will automatically be pre-filled with your mentee's first name.

Let's say this is your welcome message.

Hey ${MENTEE_NAME}, thanks for choosing me as your mentor. Please send along your portfolio, and I'll check in with you later today.

If your new mentee is called Lea, then this would turn into the following.

Hey Lea, thanks for choosing me as your mentor. Please send along your portfolio, and I'll check in with you later today.

Examples: What makes a good welcome message

There is no right or wrong when welcoming your mentee to your mentoring plan. However, it can be a good idea to tick off a few basic items.

  • Thanks & welcome!
  • Actions for the mentee (e.g. share a calendar link to book a call)
  • Meeting agenda to help the mentee prepare (as well as to set expectations)

Welcome aboard, ${MENTEE_NAME}! It's an absolute pleasure to have you as my mentee. I would appreciate if you could book a slot from my calendar for our initial meet-up. We'll be setting up a roadmap for your development and identifying key areas for improvement.
