Reviews are evolving

Reviews play an important role in building trust between mentors and mentees on MentorCruise, and transparency is crucial for establishing credibility of our review system. We believe allowing mentees to share their authentic experiences not only helps potential mentees make informed decisions, but also strengthens trust among the community and creates more opportunities.

Summary of the new policies

  • Starting from January 11, 2024, all reviews, including those received before this date, will be automatically published.
  • Starting from November 30, 2023, mentors will be able to respond to reviews as needed, or report reviews for removal under our updated reviews policy.
  • Reviews received during the trial have become private notes that are only visible to mentors.

What do you need to do as a mentor?

You might want to assess the reviews that you have not yet published. If you disagree with a review, we encourage you to write a public response to share your own perspective with potential mentees. If you believe a review has violated our reviews policy and should be removed, please report it to us.

You can respond to or report a review from Performance > Reviews & achievements.

How do reviews work going forward?

After January 11, 2024, reviews will work differently from what you might be used to. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • All reviews will be automatically published to your profile within 48 hours of receiving them. If you disagree with a review, this 48-hour period is the best time to write a public response or report the review for removal (although you can still take these actions anytime after the 48-hour period).
  • If you choose to report a review, we will temporarily remove it from your profile until we reach a conclusion on appropriate action.
  • You can continue to publish a review manually and/or share it with your network, but please note that once you publish a review, the only way to “unpublish” it is to report it to us.

FAQs

  1. Q: What happened to the reviews that I received during the trial?

Mentees used to be able to leave reviews for you during the trial, and these reviews don't count towards your star rating. Since May 2022, we've stopped accepting trial reviews because we believe mentees will have more valuable insights to share with the community after working with you for some time. Starting from November 9, 2023, all trial reviews are only visible to you in Performance > Reviews & achievements as private notes (these trial reviews won't show up on your public profile anymore, even if you previously chose to display them).

  2. Q: I have unpublished a number of very short and generic reviews because I don’t think they help potential mentees understand my services. What can I do about these reviews?

A: We are working to improve our review sorting algorithm to ensure that the most valuable and relevant content is given prominence. These short and generic reviews will be pushed to the bottom of the list of reviews on your profile!
